Kathy considers her major
influences to be Olivia Newton John, The Beatles, and the Indigo Girls. |

Influences:If you are like most people
you probably have read through the thank-yous on most
cds and wondered who in the world is this person thanking? Well, I won't bore
you with the friends and family names but there are three sets of initials that
you may be wondering who they are. Plus, probably a little more than you wanted
to know about my musical influences. ONJ: Olivia Newton-John"I have been a fan of
Olivia 's since I was eleven years old when I saw her perform at Six Flags in
St. Louis. It was the first concert I ever went to and the most memorable
concert I ever attended. I think the thing that really stuck with me that day
was her ability to communicate with the audience and literally develop a love
affair between her and the crowd. It was quite an amazing experience for me and
something I will never forget. I guess there are two reasons that over 20 years
later I still consider myself a fan. One is that incredible voice. No one can
deliver a song with the kind of honest emotion that Olivia does. The other
reason is that she has been such a wonderful role model for me both as a person
and a singer. Long Liv Love." TB: The Beatles"Has there ever been
another group that has changed the sound of music and the culture that we live
in like the Beatles? I first became aware of the Beatles when I was about seven
but I didn't really become a fan until my teens. I remember listening to a
cassette tape of the White Album that my brother had and rocking out to those
guttural electric guitar sounds and falling deeper in love with the acoustic
guitar to songs like Blackbird and Julia. I had three best friends in high
school and we called ourselves The Second Generation Beatles. ( Because by this
time the Beatles had been broke up for quite some time) IG: Indigo Girls"I think I probably wouldn't have gotten back into performing, and writing to a lesser degree, if it weren't for discovering the Indigo Girls. ( Writing is something I will always do.) As my bio states, I first saw the Girls on VH-1 in '88, but it goes further than that. I have been a fan since pretty much the beginning of this duo's first initial success and watched them blossom as writers and musicians. I love Emiliy's ability to say something in a song in a completely new and unique way. And as an acoustic guitarist there is no one better. I also admire Amy's guttsy, yet, pure voice and harsh realities that she makes you face with her songs. As a musical duo no two people were ever better suited. They are the Power of Two."
